NHRA Summit racing series

The Road from Great Meadows to Las Vegas

Nearly every Saturday from April through August, racers from as far as 3+ hours away compete in our Summit Racing ET Series.

Racers in 4 classes compete for payouts and race points to earn a spot on Team Island Dragway when we face off against all the other race tracks in the Northeast at the Summit ET Finals each September. Winners from each class at the ET Finals win the opportunity to race in Pomona California to face off against the 6 other Divisions for the opportunity to be crowned World Champion!

Racers in our Jr Dragster and Jr Street categories race for a spot to compete on our team at a National scale at the Eastern Conference Finals in Bristol, TN and at the Divisional level, each year held in August.

Our racers are competitors weekly, but very quickly turn into family. Anyone is welcome to compete, you do not have to be signed up in our yearly points program, but you may soon realize that the friendship and comaraderie is like none you’ll ever see elsewhere.

We welcome you to come check out a race! Get your “feet wet” racing in Trophy, or move up to one of our payout categories; Sportsman, Pro, Super Pro or even Motorcyle/Snowmobile.

Trophy Class

Trophy Class is where many people enter to “race for fun” without the pressure of a cash payout or points. Some racers who enter may be racing for the first time, or to gain experience, or even if they haven’t raced in a while and want to get back into it. Trophy class is a great place to learn the nuances of bracket racing; learn all about reaction times and dial-ins, and there is no better place to do it than at Island Dragway. Our staff and seasoned racers are always willing to help explain what this type of racing is about!

Entry fee for trophy is $50, that will include 2 time trial runs and then we go into eliminations. Trophy runs at the beginning of our run order and stages in lanes 13&14 generally.

Sportsman

Sportsman allows the widest range of vehicles of all of our classes; everything from street-driven muscle cars and daily drivers to your pride and joy classic restoration (and everything in between) are known to compete weekly. Class ET (Elapsed Time) breaks are 11.50-19.99, mufflers are required, transbrakes, rev limiters, and other assisting electronics are prohibited. Like all of our other Summit Race Series classes, you do NOT have to be registered in the points series to race. This class is a great starting point for anyone who wants to get some more experience bracket racing for a payout.

Qualifying is usually done on a “bogey package,” for the bye run or lane choice 1st round. 1st & 2nd round pairings are random, we assign a ladder starting 3rd round.

Jr Dragster & Jr Street

Jr Dragster and Jr Street are two classes that we race during our Summit Points races. They follow a slightly different race schedule, because there are two major events held for them each year; the Eastern Conference Finals in Bristol TN and the NHRA Division 1 Jr Divisional held at a different track in the division each year.

The NHRA Jr Drag Racing League is approaching 30 years old, many current top NHRA pro drivers got their start in this class, including, but not limited to; Erica Enders, J.R. Todd, Shawn Langdon and Tanner Gray, just to name a few!

Jr Dragster is for kids ages 5-17, with 5 year olds being able to make solo runs only, and competition for ages 6+. There is some financial investment to be made in Jr Dragster, with a half scale sized dragster and a 5 hp Briggs & Stratton based engine. Jr Street was created for kids ages 13-16, it helps ease the financial burden and get kids into a regular street driven car (often the parents daily driver). Jr Street is the only class in NJ that allows a co-driver; the parent is always a passenger in a Jr Street vehicle.

Entry Fees & Payouts

Entry fees: $50 (includes 1 adult entry, the driver, and car.)

Winner and Runner-Up always get a trophy!

$100/$50 payout to Winner/Runner-Up with 4+ cars in either class.
